When Katelyn was born, I was fanatical about washing my hands before touching her – so much so that my hands were raw from all the soap. I think I even developed an allergy to the soap. Now? It was late one Saturday night at Bryan’s parents house. Only his grandparents were home. Jasmine started complaining for food, so I opted to take her to the formal living room where it was nice and dark to feed her. Bryan, Katelyn, and Bryan’s grandparents were all in the family room.

I was adequately warned about the jealously that Katelyn would be feeling for her new little sister, but so far I don’t see any resentment coming from her. In fact, Katelyn is always kissing Jasmine at every opportunity.

“Who’s baby are you?” This was what I jokingly kept asking Jasmine as I held her. I was mainly referring to her nose… the one facial feature that all Filipinos obsess over. Bryan’s nose isn’t flat. Mine has average Filipino-flatness. Jasmine’s nose is her very own. Bryan joked that it’s wider than her mouth.

This horrendous picture of me was taken by Bryan while waiting over an hour for my OB/GYN to show up for my cesarean.
The nurses told me that my doctor is always late, but she can do a cesarean in 5 minutes. I really didn’t mind. It’s not like I was planning on catching a movie after my delivery or anything, so why get upset? Too bad the mom…

Since naming our first beloved daughter Katelyn Rose, it seemed perfect to have her sister named after another flower. Jasmine was our first choice with absolutely no second. Made my sister-in-law, Joy, “mad” because it was always her dream to have a daughter named Jasmine since her favorite movie is Aladdin. Sorry, Sis!
Then came the dilemma of what middle name rings well with Jasmine. Bryan insisted on Jasmine Rose. …
